It is certainly uncomfortable to stay in a blackout when the electricity in our homes is out; especially at night. We will certainly unable to use nearly all of our essential home electrical devices such as TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, heaters and so on. No one would like to be in such situation. However, there is an alternative for the electricity supply to our homes while electricity outages are happening i.e. by using home generators. Such device has the ability to convert mechanical energy into electrical one. This is the reason why it can provide us with an electricity supply to our homes.

In general, home generators are categorized into two which are portable generator and permanent standby generator. Portable home generators are also called as standby or stationary generator. This type of home generators are normally fueled by among others: diesel, gasoline, natural gas and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). Such generators can only provide temporary electricity power supply since the user has to continually refill the tank if he wants his generator to run extra time. Portable home generators are certainly not the appropriate device for a long term electricity backup.

On the contrary, the permanent standby generator has the capability to immediately provide you with a continuous electricity power supply automatically or simply by pushing a button. They are usually connected to the home electrical wiring system and to the fuel source. There is an auto transfer switch on the automatic home generators system that can sense the power outages before they are automatically starting the device. Permanent standby home generators will automatically turn themselves down upon having the electricity power at your homes being restored. Typically, it is going to need about 10-30 seconds for the device to run the back up power or to shut it down. As a matter of fact, such generators are the most suitable one for long term back up. They are going to cost you more than the portable one, though, especially the installation should be done by professionals. However, you get a lot more benefits out of it such as the increasing value of your hose.

Whatever types or brands of home generators you would like to purchase absolutely depends on your particular needs. You should consider about their cost, wattage, fuel availability, convenience and safety and also the length of time you might need emergency power supply. If you think that a portable one is good enough for your house, then so be it. To save you some extra money, buying cheaper portable home generators (one that is fueled by gasoline) could be an option. Nevertheless, it is all up to you.
